To mark Maths Week Scotland, Primary 6 have been learning about probability and events that are certain, likely, unlikely and impossible. We came up with our own events and arranged them along a scale from certain to impossible. We created games with a spinner which were certain, likely, unlikely or impossibel to win.
We also did investigations like how likely it is to get a 6 when you roll an die. In theory the chance is 1 in 6, so you would roll a 6 ten times. We rolled the die 60 times EACH and used tally marks to find how many times we rolled each number. We saw that everyone got different results, but when we put them together the average came close to ten times out of 60 rolls, or 1 in 6.
