Food Sustainability Rethink Food
Primary 6 and Primary 6/5 have had the AMAZING opportunity to
work in collaboration with Glasgow Science Centre and Rethink Food on a
fascinating Food Sustainability topic.
So far, we have learned all about the impact traditional farming methods
are having on our world and its’ climate. We have discovered the importance of
eating locally and seasonally and the impact the demand for meat is having on
our World.
We also looked at the United Nations Global Goals. In 2015,
world leaders agreed to 17 Global Goals (officially known as the Sustainable
Development Goals or SDGs). It's now five years on, and we have more work than
ever to do. These goals have the power to create a better world by 2030, by
ending poverty, fighting inequality and addressing the urgency of climate
change. Guided by the goals, it is now up to all of us, governments,
businesses, civil society and the general public to work together to build a
better future for everyone. Find more information here: https://www.globalgoals.org/
Land use was a huge factor in climate change and this is
where our AMAZING vertical farming tower comes in! In HPS we have our very own vertical farming
tower which we have planted Basil, Rocket and Chard. The Vertical nature of the
tower means far less land is used to grow crops – What a great idea!
